At Onswipe, we’re working to power the way the world experiences the web on tablets. This is the first in a series of monthly info-graphics we call “The State Of The Tablet”. We’ll be combining data from other studies along with data from the Onswipe network that reaches over a million people of visitors a month. The following infographic shows that people use the tablet to consume content on the tablet using the browser over apps and how they use the browser.
From the front line
So I wanted to do a quick post about working on the front line of the publishing industry to add to the collection of reblogged articles from around the web. Most of the posts here relate to publishing, digital publishing and the relationship between words on paper and words on screens. I was going to use the phrase “the move from print to digital” but I’m not sure that’s always the case, “print dies as magazines move online”, well, at the moment I think we’re all trying to figure out the connection between print and digital and how the 2 might co-exist together.
The technology exists, apps, replica’s, ebooks, html5 apps, pay-walls and whatever the next platform is that emerges in the next few months. I’m not going to go in to it too much now but I don’t think that it’s the tech that’s the problem, as you no doubt already know. Here’s where I think the problem lies…..
1. The shift in revenue streams and more specifically advertisers attitudes towards that shift
2. Internal publishing processes
3. Platform specific editorial content
4. Reader adoption and reader experience
I’ll be writing about these points on this blog because these issues (or opportunities) make up my working days, and some nights at the moment and well, it’s all I think about and study. If your involved in the publishing industry particularly with magazines then stop by, say hello, I hope your days are as exciting and challenging as mine!
